You've found the perfect beach house — now, where should you book it? Increasingly, travelers are booking directly with local operators instead of through Airbnb or Vrbo. Here's why it often costs less and works better.
The hidden cost of platform fees
Large listing platforms typically add a guest service fee on top of the nightly rate — often a meaningful percentage of your total. Book the same home directly and that fee usually disappears, so the same stay simply costs less.
You deal with the actual local team
Booking direct means talking to the people who actually manage the home — not a platform's support queue. That means faster answers before you book, real local advice for your trip, and someone nearby if you need anything during your stay.
How to book direct with confidence
A trustworthy direct-booking site shows live availability, transparent pricing and secure payment with instant confirmation — exactly what you'd expect from a platform, minus the markup. With SEASALT, you book directly on our site and deal with a local, owner-operated team throughout.
Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to book a vacation rental direct instead of on Airbnb or Vrbo?+
Usually, yes. The big platforms add a guest service fee on top of the nightly rate. Booking the same home directly with the operator typically removes that fee, making the total lower.
Is booking direct safe?+
Yes, when you book with an established operator that offers secure payment, transparent pricing and instant confirmation. SEASALT is locally owned and operated, and you book directly on our site.
What are the benefits of booking direct beyond price?+
You deal with the local team that actually manages the home — faster answers, honest local advice and on-call support during your stay, rather than a platform's support queue.
