Where Locals Drink: Beach Bars on Treasure Island & Sunset Beach

One of the great rituals out here is ending the day with your toes in the sand and a cold drink while the sun drops into the Gulf. We're lucky to have a few classic beach bars within a short walk or drive. Here's where a local goes.

Sunset Beach: the local heart

The quiet southern tip of Treasure Island — Sunset Beach — punches above its weight for beach bars. Caddy's on the Beach is the anchor: picnic tables right on the sand, a big menu, live music and one of the best sunset views around. Just up the street, Ka'Tiki is the more low-key, tiki-shack spot the surfers and regulars love. Together they're the reason a lot of us never leave this end of the island.

Around John's Pass

A few minutes north, John's Pass in Madeira Beach has a cluster of waterfront bars and restaurants along the boardwalk, where you can watch the boats come and go with a drink in hand. It's a bit livelier and touristy in the best way — great for a change of scene and some people-watching after a beach day.

How to do it like a local

Go for the sunset, not the schedule. Check who has live music that night, get there before the sun starts dropping to claim a table on the sand, and order something cold and simple. And if you're staying in one of our Sunset Beach homes, the best part is you can walk home afterward — no driving required.
